Roy E. Gillaspie was a minister for the Soldiers of the Cross and served as pastor of the Church of Jesus Christ in Bellflower, California. He taught Anglo-Israel theology and was head of the Open Bible Foundation. Gillaspie had close ties to the Christian Nationalist Party,  and he was the advisor for the Christian Defense League.
