A Special Valentine for President Obama from Arnold Murray of the Shepard’s Chapel
This morning I woke up realizing a bad habit. I had left the TV on all night as I slept and to boot it was the local FOX channel. What I woke up to was a sermon by a guy named Arnold Murray and I listened in shock to what this “pastor” had to say. For starters, he basically said that anyone who supported Obama’s bailout package were socialists and communists. He then made a point to say people suckered into bad mortgages were to blame entirely for the economic crisis. He continued, “What we need to do is drill, drill, drill!” and that the socialists, in this case alternative energy advocates “with their windmills and solar panels” are weakening the nation and its military to the coming communist onslaught! He then said “the Father” would never allow this socialism IE the economic bailout package to manifest and that every former veteran and every real American would stand up and defeat this notion. I was dumbfounded! I couldn’t believe my ears! And what became even more surreal was what I was able to dig up about this Arnold Murray and his Shepard’s Chapel.

Summary
“Christian Identity” is the name of a religious movement uniting many of the white supremacist groups in the United States. Identity’s teachers promote racism and sometimes violence. Their roots are deeply embedded in movements such as the Ku Klux Klan and the Nazis. They consider themselves true Israel and view the Jews as half-devils and arch enemies. They believe all but the white race are inferior creations. Identity’s religious views are bizarre and occultic, and their view of history is often informed by conspiracy theories. Identity’s use of the name “Christian” to promote racism and violence is blasphemous. Jesus Christ as redeemer of all races is God’s supreme answer to Identity’s outrageous claims.

I can understand why Lions for Lambs, Robert Redford’s recent movie, received mixed reviews; in fact, I can completely understand why many people would hate it. It is incredibly preachy. Around one-third of the film shows a Republican senator (Tom Cruise’s character) preaching at a veteran reporter (Meryl Streep’s character) in backing the administration’s war on terror, while, at the same time, the reporter in turn preaches to the senator about the misguided war in Iraq. Throughout the film, they preach at each other about their involvement in America’s failures.

There is an old joke that starts by asking you, “Have you stopped beating your wife yet?” Whether you answer yes or no it sounds like you are admitting to being a wife beater. It’s a practical joke based on the use of an implicit premise - that you beat your wife. The technique is used for more than a laugh though. It’s also a favorite of politicians, who use it to manipulate public opinion.

The Interfaith Partnership of Metropolitan St. Louis summed up the Christian Identity movement with the following:
“We find the Christian Identity movement not only an affront and embarrassment to all persons who identify themselves with the name Christian, but a cruel mockery of the very values, principles and narratives which shape the entire Christian tradition. This racism, bigotry and hatred is deplorable.”

Religion has been used for thousands of years to mask hate and prejudice. ”Spirituality” still serves as a convenient excuse for violence and other forms of antisocial behavior. All that is needed is a little false piety; coupled with liberal doses of self-induced ignorance and blind devotion to ”the truth.” Even the most loathsome attitudes and barbarous acts can then be attributed to ‘’serving God.”

PHOENIX (AP) — One of two Illinois brothers charged in a 2004 bombing that injured a black city official in a Phoenix suburb had extensive ties with white supremacist groups and once was deported from Canada because of his activities.
Groups that track hate groups describe Dennis Mahon, 58, as a prominent player in such groups for 15 to 20 years. Not as much is known about his less vocal twin brother, Daniel Mahon, but he also was a member of such groups, federal officials said Friday.

Here’s what white privilege sounds like:
I am sitting in my University of Texas office, talking to a very bright and very conservative white student about affirmative action in college admissions, which he opposes and I support.
The student says he wants a level playing field with no unearned advantages for anyone. I ask him whether he thinks that in the United States being white has advantages. Have either of us, I ask, ever benefited from being white in a world run mostly by white people? Yes, he concedes, there is something real and tangible we could call white privilege.

Few object to the therapeutic use of fluoride to stop tooth decay, but fluoridation, the addition of fluoride to the public water supply, can spark avid controversy. Most dentists, medical groups, and government officials argue that fluoridation is a cheap and risk-free venture that doubles cavity prevention. In contrast, a small minority of dentists and conservative political groups argue that fluoride is a hazardous, poisonous substance that should not be consumed. Some antifluoridationists even claim that fluoridation is an untrustworthy form of socialized medicine. But rather than just attacking fluoridation as socialized medicine, opponents originally claimed that it was a conspiracy to poison or brainwash Americans through the water supply.

The doctrine of racism asserts that blood is the marker of national-ethnic identity and postulates that innate, inherited characteristics biologically determine human behavior. With respect to the ultimate value of a human being, the racist places a higher value on his or her membership in a “race” than on his or her individuality. Racists define national-ethnic identity through the myth of “pure inherited blood,” though in practice they can only point to differences in visible but biologically superficial characteristics such as skin, hair and eye color.

Racists are people who believe that innate, inherited characteristics biologically determine human behavior. The doctrine of racism asserts that blood is the marker of national-ethnic identity. Within a racist framework, the value of a human being is not determined by his or her individuality, but instead by membership in a so-called “racial collective nation.” Many intellectuals, including scientists, have lent pseudoscientific support to racist thinking. Nineteenth century racist thinkers, such as Houston Stewart Chamberlain, exerted a significant influence on many in Adolf Hitler’s generation.
