Willis Carto

The son of a well known and respected Ohio family, Willis A. Carto emerged as a major player in organized racism in 1950’s California. He went on to be a influential presense in Washington D.C. for forty years. Carto was involved with many extremist right-wing movements including the neo-Nazis, Holocaust denial, segregationism, and militias, as well as the publication and dispersement of racist literature and periodicals.

Willis Carto founded the anti-semitic organization Liberty Lobby, which in turn published what may have been the most widely read racist publication: The Spotlight. The A.D.L. said about Carto: ‘he has founded and overseen from behind the scenes an intricate network of bigotry..’ Kenneth Goff and Admiral John G. Crommelin sat on Liberty Lobby’s Board of Policy with other notable figures.
