Christian Defense League

The men behind the rise of the Christian Defense League were Identity adherents and former Klansmen Wesley Swift and San Jacinto Capt along with Colonel William Potter Gale. According to Gale the idea behind the CDL was proposed in a letter by Capt titled: ‘The NAACP represents the negro; the ADL represents the Jews; who represents YOU — the white Christian?’ A Miami F.B.I. report had at one time named Gale as a person responsible in the September, 1963 church bombing in Birmingham in which four young black girls were killed. Some other members of the Christian Defense League were Richard G. Butler [Aryan Nations] who served as it’s President, attorney Bertrand L. Comparet, V.P., and Roy E. Gillaspie, Advisor. A comprehensive look at the Christian Defense League, ‘A League of Their Own: A Look Inside the Christian Defense League’ was written in 2004 by David Boylan.  It can be read here.
